John and Ian and I spent a good day in Manning Park on the 18th of March. Our target bird was for sure the American Three-toed Woodpecker, and we were lucky to find a female when we randomly stopped for smaller birds near Strawberry Flats. The Evening Grosbeaks and White-winged Crossbills were plentiful from Sunshine Valley to Manning Park. We also saw Red Crossbills and hundreds of Pine Siskins. Four Pine Grosbeaks also appeared on the road to Gibson’s Pass. The temperature warmed up to about plus 7, chilly in the shade in the am but warmed up nice in the pm! A nice Ruffed Grouse strutted across the road, probably a first for Manning Park for me!
