January was a fairly decent month weather wise. February was terrible. I experienced the coldest windchill at minus 49! I have seen a few Hawk Owls. This winter has been decent for winter finches. I have seen small flocks of redpolls both Hoary and Common. Not as many WW Crosbills or Pine Grosbeaks. Last weekend I saw a Snowy Owl only my third one up here Two Moose Fog around the Peace River Today, I drove to Tumbler Ridge hoping for some early migrants. I did see an American Crow which would likely be a migrant and a Golden Eagle. Again likely a migrant. It is my first one for the peace. Also saw a Gyrfalcon on my outing only my third one for up here. Moberly Lake from today. Here is my year list so far Common Goldeneye Common Merganser Ruffed Grouse Sharp-tailed Grouse Rock Pigeon Eurasian Collared-Dove Golden Eagle Bald Eagle Snowy Owl Northern Hawk Owl American Three-toed Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Hairy Woodpecker Pileated Woodpecker Gyrfalcon Northern Shrike Canada Jay Steller's Jay Blue Jay Black-billed Magpie American Crow Common Raven Black-capped Chickadee Boreal Chickadee Red-breasted Nuthatch White-breasted Nuthatch Golden-crowned Kinglet European Starling Bohemian Waxwing Evening Grosbeak Pine Grosbeak Common Redpoll Hoary Redpoll White-winged Crossbill Snow Bunting House Sparrow I am doing a mammal count this year so far 243 deer.
