I do not travel outside BC much but I do know a lot you do and if you have 3 favorite bird photos from your travels please share them here. I did manage to get into Washington State and particularly I wanted to spend more time with the American White Pelicans. I went to Whidbey Island one morning and managed to find a good size flock of them in a lagoon. I find them a fascinating bird and while they were quite distant I did get some images of them. More to Come by Nick, on Flickr I had heard there was a Brown Pelican hanging around Blaine Washington but I never managed to track it down. I did find Purple Martins and they were quite easy to view. This male was in his full purple color. Purple Martin by Nick, on Flickr While checking out the Purple Martins I came across a modern form of bird housing I had never come across before. Modern Housing by Nick, on Flickr

Nice photos Nick. Love that first Martin shot! American White Pelicans are one of my favourite bird species.
I barely traveled outside of BC this year so can't contribute to this one. The other two postings I should be able to add three photos.

Amazing photos! Sadly I didn't get out much this year due to having had a baby last fall. I did manage to get out for about 1 hour every week, although my photography was limited. However, 2019 is a new year and just got a DSLR for Christmas! I don't have a long lens yet but that's next on the list. I've been using my Canon SX60, which certainly gets the job done and is good for ID and documentation but definitely has it's limitations and cannot compete in quality to a DSLR. I only had 1 trip outside BC this year and it was to Saskatoon in August, so here are my 3: In Saskatoon I went to a local (but very new) wetland that I had never been to previously and I was very impressed. It is only about 5 minutes from my parents' place too which was very convenient! All three of these photos are from this wetland: There were a number of Wilson's snipe along the shore and in the reeds: I liked the lighting and silouettes here and the fact that it was a greater and lesser yellowlegs. I was hoping the greater would straighten its head for me for more symmetry but no luck: I was also surprised to see a few pelicans on this pond: Looking forward to seeing others' photos!

Neal, great shots. All sharp photos.
Jealous of that Willow Ptarmigan. Been looking for one in the Peace but with no luck.

Bert those are excellent photos. Great timing with that Eared Grebe shot!
I haven't been yet but would love to bird the southern Alberta area. Frank Lake seems to be a very good hotspot for birds.
