Hi Folks We've had at least one Calliope male and one female coming regularly to the feeder. This one seems to illustrate Pete Dunne's description of "projected dejection in response to its Lilliputian size!"

Wow Mac!!! What an awesome picture! I've pretty well always assumed that all green hummers at my feeders are simply female rufous--we don't get alot in the first place , but they're the most common. I think I'd better double-check my assumptions especially on female calliopes which are a little less noticeable than the males I think..................now if only those things would sit still for 5 minutes MINIMUM so I could study them! ;D Yeah right, not by our place anyway. Jeff Okay so the fact that I need at least 5 minutes may say something about my level of expertise....at least they're not quite as bad as flycatchers! ;D

Hi Jeff I've found that the only way to get an edge on these hummers is to use the feeders with perches...then at least the little beggars will stay still for a few seconds while they feed!
