I haven’t done a report in a few months. In late August there was a Red Phalarope at the local sewage lagoons. I managed to see it. My second one for up here. It wasn’t in breeding plumage though. Added a good yard bird to my list, Say’s Phoebe.
I didn’t get out too much in September. Towards the end of September and into October is great for migrating waterfowl. There was quite a few Cackling Geese migrating through.
Sandhill Cranes are regularly seen.
At the end of October there was an Iceland Gull at the south end of Charlie Lake. A new Peace Bird for me.
On November 10th I was shocked to see two Sandhill Cranes in a snowy field. There would be here two days later. Latest sighting for the in the Peace
Sharp-tailed Grouse are commonly seen up here. I would bet it is the best spot to see them in BC.
It has been a good winter for deer and Moose. I have seen quite a few Red Fox as well.
October, November and so far December has been great weather wise. Temps are around 0 to minus 10 and very little snow on the ground.
It has been good for winter finches. Quite a few redpolls in October and November but they seem to have decreased in numbers. Good numbers of Pine Grosbeaks and WW Crossbills.
Yesterday, I saw a Snowy Owl. Only my second one for the Peace region.
Hasn’t been a great winter for Hawk Owls. They are an irruptive species but did see on yesterday and saw two today.
Saw a Great Gray Owl today. My fifth for up here
And another Moose
