Last weekend a friend and I hiked Mount Spieker in Tumbler Ridge. If you are not familiar with it, it is a very good area to see Ptarmigan and provides easy access to the alpine. All three species of Ptarmigan have been recorded there. Unfortunately none were seen. However, I did add Golden-crowned Sparrow to my Peace list which is at 223.
Despite the cloud the scenery was great
The highlight were 9 Mountain Goats. First time seeing them for me.

Shorebirds are migrating south. Lesser Yellowlegs and Least Sandpiper
Sora was somewhat cooperative.
I spent a couple of days in Fort Nelson. The first day I birded around the Fort Nelson area. It was around mid afternoon and it was fairly quiet in most areas. I think it was too warm.
The next day I drove just passed Muncho Lake.
Just outside of Fort Nelson
The scenery is spectacular
Muncho Lake
Mew Gulls breed at Muncho Lake. I tried a photo of them but they were too far away. There were a few of them on top of conifers near the lake.
Surf Scoter
This female Red-breasted Merganser was a surprise. No sign of young either
Mammals were numerous. I saw my first Grizzly(smaller one) 4 Black Bears, 1 Moose and 3 Wood Bison.
The following day I drove from Fort Nelson to Fort Liard in the NWT. It takes about 2 hours.
Young Great Horned Owl on the side of the road. It was trying to fly. When I drove back it was gone. No signs of it either.
When I entered the NWT the first bird species for my NWT list was a calling Tennessee Warbler.
I saw more Bison. These were blocking a bridge. There were more before I took the picture.
Scenic shot of the Fort Nelson river
I was driving along and way up ahead I wondered what was on the road. As I got closer I realized it was a Bison. I stopped and I got closer to it. It continued walking right passed me. I could hear its feet hitting the pavement.
Total trip list for Mammals, one Grizzly, 6 Black Bears, 4 Moose, 15 Bison.
68 species of birds. Highlights include Palm Warbler, Bohemian Waxwing, WW Crossbill, Red-breasted Merganser, Swainson's Hawk and Le Conte's Sparrow.
