Got a pic of this guy, came to the "commercial" suet cage, first thing this morning, before being chased off by Starlings! -- Al--was not able to get a good shot of the head, as he kept on ducking behind the feeder, however I think it is rather an "apparent" shot--best of the bunch

Hmm, upon looking "much" closer at the Sibley's, I will change that to "Northern Flicker" as the book description more closely replicates what I saw--so, change this to Northern! ;D ;D

Even though the red-shafted and yellow-shafted flickers are considered one species as you read, it's still of interest to see a yellow-shafted variety on the coast. Certainly of note.
This guy looks good and yellow! Watch for face colour and pattern on the head if it will cooperate for you next time.
Darn starlings!!
