Thanks all, Yes it is a pretty sweet trip. I tanked on the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, in a known place in the Ouchita national forest near Walden, Arkansas. Prairie Warbler and Bobwhite we rediscovered there though. They were bonus lifers for that day. I’m looking for Kirklands Warbler in Michigan but that will be in August not prime time. Hoping for a few Atlantic birds when we get up that way. As this is not a birding trip per se They will all be great birds to observe. Some of the birds I’m only seeing for the 2nd time and I’m learning songs and calls again Ed Klassen

Hi Ed. Glad to see the trip is going well and you are seeing some great birds including a few lifers. Where did you find the Eastern Whip-Poor-Will? That's a bird I still "need." Too bad about the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, I know they are tricky to find. Stay safe, miss you guys. John Vooys

John the Eastern Whip-poor Will showed up at several Campsites in E Oklahoma and Arkansas. Wasn’t expecting them not on my radar but just at dusk they started calling very loudly!

I finally found 2 Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, last chance in N Carolina. A Bachmanns Sparrow popped up for me as well. Tomorrow I hope to join a Pelagic tour out of Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina😀 Ed Kassen

Way to go, Ed. It is neat that you found the sparrow as well since they like the same type of habitat as the Red-C Woodpecker. I'm sure if you get on a pelagic from the outer bands of N. Carolina you will get a nice group of new birds! You and Elaine, stay healthy. John Vooys

Lucky to join a Pelagic last minute. Saw a few birds I hadn’t even known about before this trip. Things were a bit rough as we went all the way out into the full stream. Some expert birders (Steve Howell) and a bunch from Cornell were there. Only 2 west coasters so we had good help! I will do a recap of the birds in fall when I’m done. But for now 2 types of Shearwaters, a couple of Petrols and 2 types of Storm Petrols Were new birds for me. Took a full day to recover from rough water, though🤪

It’s been a month since I checked in! We are leaving for NFLD tomorrow. The birding is slowing a bit. We’ve done some great hiking in Cape Breton recently. I found a Black-billed Cuckoo in NS and a Bicknell’s Thrush in the White Mountains of New Hamshire! These were first timers for me. We are 3 months in and still enjoying the open road. We tend to travel a few 100 kilometres and then stay in 1 spot for 2-4 days. Each province and even each area have there own unique flavour. The small villages are distinct as well. Today is a rainy day and we are catching up on laundry, emails and journals. Hoping for Puffins, Great Cormorant and perhaps a Razor Bill or two! Ed Klassen

Hi Ed (and Elaine). Looks like you guys are having a great trip. Cape Breton is a wonderful area and we hope to get to NFL some day. I'm glad you got the Bicknell's Thrush; it's not an easy bird to get! Stay safe and the best on the other target birds! John Vooys
