There's a Sharp-tailed with the Pectoral Sandpiper in the big south pond. Sharp-looking bird (pardon the pun)

Great series of photos Gord. I completely agree with your photo technique. I went Sunday morning and just when the light was getting perfect a Hunting Dog club showed up for some kind of training.(with permission) With the trucks driving around the pond and the barking dogs that was too much for most of the birds and they left. The Jackman Wetlands are on 272nd and just northwest of 8th Ave, about a kilometer up. The parking lot is opposite the entrance to the transfer station. It is an old dump site and is newly being made into a more people friendly park. There are a couple major ponds, the south seems to be the one a greater variety of shorebirds and waterfowl hang out in. In wetter weather the surrounding area does flood. I am told there are otters in the ponds at times and coyote around. It is used by a lot of dog walkers so check your shoes before you get into your car. There is a hunting dog group that has some kind of a permit to train their dogs there. I have only come across them on Sunday mornings and they do tend to take over the place with little regard for others. Best to check out the park on other days. There were quite a number of shorebirds at the place on Sunday morning and this morning there was still some but they can be a little distant. I suspect it would be a good place to check out after a storm.

Following Nicks directions Dian and I headed out to Jackman this afternoon. Lots of Pecs, Dowitchers and Yellowlegs. We met a couple of fellows from Walnut Grove and about 5 minutes after they left we located the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, reported earlier by Gord. This was the first view we had. Only the head was visible. Then it walked away so couldn't get a frontal shot. It flew further away to a sandbar where we finally got a frontal shot. Thanks for the heads-up Gord.

I checked out the wetlands this morning and it was not very populated. There were a couple big machines digging around the north pond and a few pickup trucks so they may have scared off the birds. There were about 20 Long-billed Dowitchers, a Yellowlegs and some Mallards working the south pond.
