Looks more like revamping of the gravel parking with some topsoil for landscaping? Maybe someone could ask them unless Zack already did in which case I am completely wrong!

I was told last June that the company had applied for permits to resume blasting at this site. They have cleared a lot of the boulders along side the road however they haven`t rebuilt the road going up the hill. I was told about application by a City of Abbotsford official when he stopped by to ask what we were photographing, he was quite surprised that the Peregrine`s and Cliff Sparrow`s were nesting there.

Well! That's bad news for the Peregrines & Cliff Swallows. I wonder if that info about the bird nesting sites was passed along to the City or whether a quick call might help?

As far as i know they were not going to do blasting during the nesting period but that was what they said last year. City Hall was not anxious to give them a permit because there were rare orchids above the quarry that are found no where else around here. I would give City Hall a shout and see what is going on.

096 by Henry Wall, on Flickr 095 by Henry Wall, on Flickr Photo 96 is right underneath where the Peregrine`s nest site is. However since they started working here i have not seen the Peregrine`s here unlike last year when they returned in January and stayed until the end of June.

Update from the City of Abbotsford this morning March 10-2017:
Mining Permits have lapsed
Site is "dormant"
It is being graded and fenced to store equipment
No applications to resume quarrying activities at this time
Such application would require a full environmental review at which time we as a group could have our say

Bert, thanks tons for the update and Hank for keeping an eye on things. Very encouraging to hear for the bird's sake. We should watch to see if the Rock Wrens return as it looks like they likely had breeding success last summer.

I hope so also Gord. It was fun watching 3 species of birds nesting side by side. The Cliff Swallows, the Rock Wrens, and the Peregrine`s.
