There is a Rock Wren singing on territory at Quadling Quarry. As you first enter, there are Cliff Swallows nesting on the cliffs. The wren was on the next ridge above the Swallows. It is difficult to see but easy to hear. Let's hope it finds a mate. This area is restricted so entry onto the property is prohibited.

Nice find Len. There has been a few individuals reported in the last few years. Good idea to keep a loo out.

Hi all,
On May 29 2016 the ROCK WREN was again observed singing at the Quadling Quarry. It was above the nesting CLIFF SWALLOWS, singing from the top of the rock face near some purple Foxglove flowers. Nice bird Len.
Good Birding,
Dan Tyson Langley, BC

Yesterday I stopped by and the Rock Wren was singing away. So far, I've not had more than one singing at once. I thought for a minute perhaps there were two but ended up with the feeling it was just the one but ranging around the area a little bit. This isnt to say there is not two as others have reported two but I've not had that experience yet.
One exciting bit is that I saw the bird catch some sort of large insect, perhaps large spider (so I should have said "some sort of large arachnid"!) and fly off with it still visible in its beak. It paused on a rock, with spider/insect still in the beak, to sing a few notes before continuing back up the rocks with its prize. This strongly suggests it's feeding a nest full of young which is quite a significant thing to have happening here on the coast.

On July 3 2016 the ROCK WREN was still present singing away from the quarry. Also present were 3 PEREGRINE FALCONS and 2 TURKEY VULTURES.
Good Birding,
