I was out looking for shorebirds on Sumas Prairie this afternoon and this flock flew over when I was at York Road. I thought they were probably whimbrel; I can't think of what else they might be. I attach one of my trademarked blurry cropped and grainy pictures, but not sure if anyone can see enough detail to ID the birds. There were at least 35 of them. Anne Whimbrel? by aktoews, on Flickr

Those would be Whimbrels. Great sighting.
Perfect time of year for shorebirds.

Thanks Chris. I am not used to seeing them overhead, or in large flocks, or in Abbotsford, so I was a bit puzzled when I saw them.

Good sighting, Anne! The third record for our area, I believe. It's neat that whenever we have a Whimbrel show up, its a flock!
