Hi all: This afternoon, the lingering Say's Phoebe at the Hope Airport allowed me close looks at its insect catching behaviour. As I was pullling into my usual parking spot by the hangers, the phoebe was sitting on the metal fence. It sallied forth, caught a large bee, flew back to the fence, and thrased the bee on the fence a few times before swallowing it. I have not been taking my camera with me to the airport recently, especially if I am going for a run. Neighbours recently had their truck broken into while walking there dog out there; an unfortunate sign of the times. For any birders wanting to walk the 4 km loop around the perimeter of the airport, I would recommend parking by the terminal/hangers. There is often someone in the terminal, and the area is pretty open, and observable for most of your walk. Also here, today, were Tree, and Violet Green Swallows, Alaskan Song, Savannah, and White crowned Sparrows, and Western Meadowlark. Unusually, I didn't see a single raptor. Cheers, Thor
