Early this morning Chris and I headed up Columbia Valley to take a closer look after my visit earlier in the week. While surprisingly chilly in the early morning air, the weather was quite nice. We drove the outside loop with most of our effort on Maple Falls Road and Henderson Road before we ran out of time. Again, White-crowned and Willow Flycatchers were very abundant. Wilson's Warbler started quite slowly, but along Henderson Road we got most of the morning's 12 birds. Quite obviously these birds are breeding. We also saw several deer.
Deer
We're right along the border at once spot along Henderson Road.
A Red-breasted Sapsucker
A Savannah Sparrow (the Hunchback of Columbia Valley?)
Our list is below. When I initially tallied up the results I forgot European Starling and told Chris we had 49 species for the morning. Seems we hit 50 after all which is pretty good and shows that the area is worth visiting. Great outing, thanks, Chris!
