Greetings Birders,
My nephew, oldest son, and I visited Hope Airport this afternoon. It was raining for most of our brief time there, but it did stop for 20 minutes before we headed home. The highlights were the Lazuli Buntings at Jack DeLair's property. I personally saw 9 individuals in/near his hay fields, but I am sure if it was a dry day with dry waist-high grass and one would have explored the property more thoroughly there were many more the 9. I talked with Jack and Rick there and they thought closer to 30 Lazuli Buntings were on the property based on earlier sightings today.
I realize this is private property and Jack has welcomed known birders to enjoy the birds on his land, but obviously one should not visit his property without Jack's permission. I mention the sighting on this site because Lazuli Bunting numbers in the double digits is rather signifcant for a location this close to the coast!
On another note, 3 Blue-winged Teal were at the Hope Sewage Ponds.
Here is the list.

Wood Duck 1
American Wigeon 2
Mallard 7
Blue-winged Teal 3

I can't help but photograph any posing Cedar Waxwing. They are so impressive looking.
Willow Flycatcher where one would expect one on the east end of the airport strip.
