June is the best month for bird watching up here. The sewage ponds in Fort St John have been excellent for shorebirds this year. So far I am at 22 shorebird species.
Two Stilt Sandpipers were present for a few days
Wilson's Phalaropes breed at the sewage lagoons
Managed to spot a Sanderling. Not too common up here.
The highlight for June were White-rumped Sandpipers. They migrate up here in very small numbers but this year was different. I had a high count of 77 and another birder had a high count of 161!
Seems to be a fairly decent year for Cape May Warblers. I added five new species in June to my overall Peace total, Virginia Rail, American Goldfinch, MacGillivray's Warbler, Mourning Dove and the highlight was a Sedge Wren which was reported by another birder. The Sedge Wren was a lifer as well. I am at 232 my Peace life list.
