Just home from my annual golf trip with some friends. They humoured me and we went out a few times to look for some birds. I got some lifers for me on the trip: a White-headed Woodpecker; White-breasted Nuthatch; Pygmy Nuthatch: Cassin's Finch; Forster's Terns (Not good photos); and Mountain Chickadee (no photos). We were in the Bend/Redmond/Sisters/Prineville areas and there are some great places for birds down there, I might have to go back just for birding. Here are a few shots from the trip: Yellow-headed Blackbird by Neal, on Flickr Yellow-headed Blackbird - Female by Neal, on Flickr Western Scrub Jay by Neal, on Flickr California Quail - Female by Neal, on Flickr White-breasted Nuthatch by Neal, on Flickr Pigmy Nuthatch by Neal, on Flickr White-headed Woodpecker by Neal, on Flickr Say's Phoebe by Neal, on Flickr Cassin's Finch by Neal, on Flickr Unfortunately I did not get a good photo of the male Cassin's Finch that I had seen earlier on a trail. I should say that I was out at a spot and while there were lots of birds, no good opportunities for photos because they were really flirty. A lady was there birding and said, if you want some photos, go to the feeder by the Best Western Motel. I did and in 10 minutes saw two White-headed woodpeckers, the two types of Nuthatch, the Cassins Finch and the Says Phoebe. There are 11 species of woodpeckers in the Sisters area, I saw 5 but only got some photos of one. Ant there is a great wetlands area by Prineville that I bet would be amazing during migration. My big disappointment was not seeing a Pinyon Jay. Cheers all and happy birding.

Some great images Neal. That White-headed Woodpecker is on my bucket list, I am little envious. Any sign of Acorn Woodpeckers in that area?

Apparantly the Acorn is not common there but one has shown up this year and is frequenting a private feeder in Sisters. I did not see it, but have seen them in California. Cheers.
