I made a trip to the Kane Valley this week I was able to ID 35 different birds but better birders than I would get more. I travelled east stopping frequently and just listening and looking it was quiet and peaceful, although by noon it was getting quite warm and the bugs are starting to get active. In the large lakes and ponds I frequently saw Spotted Sandpipers. I got led away by one bird, it was sort of acting like a Killdeer, perhaps I was near its young. Kane Valley Series #2 by Nick, on Flickr The Kane Valley by Nick, on Flickr The main reason I go to the Kane Valley is for Woodpeckers, particularly the Red-naped Sapsucker. I have seen Pileated, Hairy, Downy, and both Red-naped and Williamson's Sapsuckers. A couple years ago I saw 20+ Red-naped Sapsuckers during my visit. The Kane Valley by Nick, on Flickr The most common bird has to be the Pine Siskin, they were at every spot I stopped at and more than one pair was around. The Kane Valley by Nick, on Flickr I must have gotten too close to this Hairy Woodpecker's nest as it swooped over my head twice. When I backed off it went to town on this tree to dig out some bug. Kane Valley Series #2 by Nick, on Flickr The Western Meadowlark were not as common as in other years but I did get to see a number. Kane Valley Series #2 by Nick, on Flickr There were lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers around and I even saw a MacGillivray's Warbler. Kane Valley Series #2 by Nick, on Flickr Mountain Bluebirds are not that common but they do breed in the area and can be found with some work. Nick, excellent report. Kane Valley is a nice place to explore. Great scenery and little traffic.

Nice series Nick, especially the Spotted in flight. I have never been there. Must put it on my bucket list.
