The final morning of our trip saw us venturing back into Cave Creek Canyon's South Fork. We had to wait out a brief rainstorm, but soon the weather cleared. After spending some time searching for the Elegant trogon, we bumped into another Field Guides tour group. Their guide told us that they had heard a bird calling a bit further down the canyon. We did some more looking, and our guide spotted a beautiful male calling in a pine tree aways off the road. We were all able to get good looks through our guide's spotting scope: Elegant trogon by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Back in the main part of the canyon, we had leisurely views of another Whiskered screech-owl: Whiskered screech-owl by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Heading up into the mountains one last time, we got a couple of Grace's warblers, an Olive warbler, and several Pygmy nuthatches. This was at an elevation of about 8000 feet: meadow in the Chiricahua Mtns. by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr We were excited to find a Buff-breasted flycatcher: Buff-breasted flycatcher by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr This bird is somewhat rare north of Mexico. We had 144 species over the course of 3.5 days.

It was! I really hope to go back there someday. We didn't go to Madera Canyon, which is one place I'd want to visit.
Also, I would definitely go on another trip with Field Guides again.

That was an amazing holiday with your Mom. We enjoyed all five installments. Great photos and stories. Bruce and Joanne
