May started off really cold and within the first few days there was a snowstorm. Snowed around 10cm which resulted in a halt of migrating birds.
Pipit
Long-tailed-Ducks migrate through the area but typically they are far out and only allow for views through a scope. Due to the snow they were quite close to shore.
Due to the snow there were a lot of Pipits and Longspurs on the side of the roads
The snow quickly disappeared and the following weekend and I saw a Pileated Woodpecker.
Last week there was an Avocet at the local sewage ponds. I managed to see it which was a new BC bird for me.
Also at the ponds were 12 American Black-bellied Plovers. New Peace Bird.
My parents came up to visit and we took a weekend trip to the Northern Rockies. We tallied 40+ Bison, 24 Black Bears, 17 Stone Sheep, 12 Caribou, 6 Deer, 2 Coyotes, 2 Moose and one Porcupine which is the first one I have seen.
