My last week or so of birding has turned up a number of woodpeckers; Hairy, Downy, Northern Flickers, Red-breasted Sapsuckers but no Pileated Woodpeckers. Here are few images I have taken. I had this Hairy Woodpecker land in a nearby bush at the Lake Cheam Wetlands and it seemed liked it was choking on something and eventually spit out something and gave a call and flew off. Hairy Woodpecker by Nick, on Flickr Downy Woodpeckers have been plentiful, I have heard them at almost every place I have gone. While I stop to look at them I did not bother with any images recently so hear is one from a couple weeks back. Downy Woodpecker by Nick, on Flickr Today the Northern Flickers were very active at the Aldergrove Regional Park, I think I saw or heard 6 as I wandered the park. This pair were chasing each other and I could hear another calling out while a Downy Woodpecker worked on creating a hole in a tree. Dueling Flickers by Nick, on Flickr I have a special liking for Red-breasted Sapsuckers, it took a lot of work for me to find my first one years ago but today I found a pair chasing each other at the Aldergrove Regional Park. Dueling Sapsuckers by Nick, on Flickr I had hoped to see a Pileated Woodpecker today but I had no luck, I know of a couple possible locations I will check out over the next couple days.
