I've been approached by Environment Canada about a study they are working on to discover why there's a decline in Rufous Hummingbirds. I believe many members of this forum have noticed this fact.
The team will likely visit for one day to catch and band some hummingbirds as well as taking urine samples (collecting urine from hummingbirds is quite a feat!) collecting droppings and so forth. These samples will be analyzed with one goal to determine the amount of insecticides present.
The sites they need are ones that have feeders up annually and get a decent number of Rufous Hummingbirds. (Not Anna's)
If anyone is interested let me know via a reply, email or private message and I can put you in touch with the study lead.
Thanks to all for considering!

Gord, i thought the decline was due to the Rufus being exposed to Herbicides from the Blueberry Farms.

That's the main theory the study will focus on. It will be interesting to hear the results of their study.
