I had read about a Great Egret being seen just over in Aldergrove and decided to check it out on Sunday, it was so wet and miserable I had no luck. I found out this morning that the wet weather had lifted enough for others to have seen it. This morning I got over there and it was perched on the roof of the house. I was able to speak with the residents/owners who said that it had arrived last Tuesday or Wednesday, so before the big wind storm. It has been feeding in the grass and around the blueberry bushes. If you do go to see it 1740 272nd St, park well off 272nd ( better on 18th ave.) lots of big trucks and fast traffic. Great Egret by Nick, on Flickr

I saw the Great Egret this morning (Monday) also. Met Ed Klassen there too. He had driven by the place earlier without seeing it. There was a little ridge in the field and it had gone behind that. When I got ther it was feeding in the grass field and was then flushed onto the farmhouse roof by a Bald Eagle. Nice bird for December. Merry Christmas to all, John Vooys, Abbotsford

Looks like one, Randy. The staple diet of raptors, and to a lesser degree herons and, of course, egrets!
Nice bird. It has been years since I've seen one.

That's a great capture Bert! I was there early on Christmas morning and he only caught 3 fish. That rodent looks to be a much bigger Christmas dinner. Great Egret hunting by Nick, on Flickr

The Townsend's Vole [thanks Randy] looks to be about as big as they get [approaching 9" incl tail]. It took him all of 1 or 2 seconds to swallow it!

It was still in the field yesterday at 2:45. It stood out, even viewable from a great distance!
