This afternoon I took a quick peek around Sumas Prairie. On Marion Road between Campbell and No. 5 Road in a dirt field were two Buff-breasted Sandpipers with some Killdeer. This is the first time I've ever seen them in the Fraser Valley and actually the nicest view I've had of the species as well. Buff-breasted Sandpiper usually flies through the Prairies on migration and are very uncommon out our way. Beautiful birds. I looked away at the Greater White-fronted Goose as it flew over (same one as Paul reported?) and the sandpiper was no were to be seen. Ut must have flown or just tucked itself in among the grass Dsc_6897 by Gord G, on Flickr A young Greater White-fronted Goose looking a bit out of place for early September. I made quick trip around Sumas Prairie this morning and I was not able to spot any Sandpipers. I again saw large flocks of Swallows on different roads; mostly Barn but on McDerment south of Campbell there were large flocks (200+) of mostly Violet-green Swallows with about 1/4 mostly Barn but appeared to be a few Rough-winged also. I guess they also are gathering to head south.

I think I found the right field a couple days back—lots of pipits and killdeer—but no buff-breasted. Seems to be a great year for them in the area.
