I took a picture of this bird July 22 at Jackman Wetlands. Every once in a while I hit a road block with ID and this is one of those times. I have a feeling I am going to have one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments when I find out what it is. Some points to consider; Thin bill slight eye ring stripes on flanks I have a poor picture of it flying away and it doesn't appear to have white edges to the tail Brown/black primaries

This looks like a Savannah Sparrow to me. They are very variable.

I have seen Savannah Sparrows there a few times also and for some reason they catch me by surprise for being there. Its does not seem quite the right location for them but there they are.

Thanks for the input Nick and Paulos. I think you are right. When I first took the picture that is what I thought I was photographing but 2 weeks later I started to question myself. Nice to get a confirmation.
