In a high density sub division in Surrey live dozens of these birds. One person thought there was over a hundred, but I only counted 5 in the short distance I travelled. They are so loud and so gorgeous. They perch on roof tops, parade on the driveways and the tiny yards. Elsewhere people complain about Goose poop, but this is bigger. If you are complaining about crows be happy they are not these, there vocal abilities are amazing. They are turkey size and bigger but when the tail is spread out it was bigger than a Smart Car I saw. They had been a news item on local television a couple weeks back but if it is correct they have been around the area for at least 7 years and were abandon by a "farmer" as the area came under development. Like most birds they go into breeding mode with posturing and displays, challenging other males ( which are sometimes themselves reflected in someone's shiny car door; explain that to ICBC!) Evidently they do breed and chicks are seen later in the season. If the yards were a reasonable size they would be interesting yard birds, but it is a high density neighborhood with lots of about 3000 sq feet. Peacocks Backyard Bird! by Nick, on Flickr
