Hi guys! I'm going on a work trip to Trinidad in the new year. I'm going to take my full rig for when I can actually go birding, but it won't be safe to have it on the work site. It's a bit sketchy there. There are going to be birds EVERYWHERE though, so I am wanting a camera that is small enough to be in a pouch on my belt, but that has the most reach. Mostly for ID, but hopefully that can give me decent quality. Any suggestions?

Becke I think Bert birderbert uses a smaller camera and gets very good results from it too. It might be a good starting place for you? Sounds like a great trip coming up! Looking forward to hearing about it.

Thanks Gord. I've been looking and I think it will actually have to be a point and shoot, sadly. Trying to figure out which is best.

I personally love the bridge cameras. As my brother said on the other forum I have a Canon SX60 and he had the SX50. We are both very happy with them.

Ya, a bridge camera was too large to have in my pocket. I needed something super small as I work in theme construction and can't have anything obtrusive on me. I ended up with a Canon SX730 HS with a 40x optical zoom (due to it being on sale!) and was thoroughly impressed with it on the trip. I could zoom in from VERY (and I mean VERY) far away with a very decent ability to id the birds. Eye stripes, bill and feet colour etc. It was fantastic!
