There has been a California Scrub-Jay in the area of Southlands Crescent in Chilliwack since at least Saturday. Today was the first time I actually got to see it. I’m not convinced that this is the same bird that has been showing up in the area for the last number of years, because this one is vocalizing very differently. It’s also possible that it’s just the same bird and it’s added a few new calls to its repertoire.

Great to hear there's one back again. One has to wonder if it might be the same as last year to be in the same location. Seems to be a few around over the last month. I havn't heard lately if the ones west of us in Maple Ridge and perhaps other locations are still around too. All signs do seem to continue to point towards seeing more and more of this species in B.C.

Saw it yesterday morning at the feeders that are being dutifully kept filled at Robertson School. Good work guys! California Scrub Jay by Gord G, on Flickr

I’m glad to hear there is still seed in those! I filled them all up to capacity before the break and I’ve been meaning to go check them.

The California Scrub Jay was at the feeder for less than 10 seconds....I was watching my footing on the snow and as I got into picture range(pnshot camera) it flew. I hung around for a while but it was hiding somewhere! Anyway it is most likely the bird that's has been around last year as well. I'm speculating it visits the feeder(s) regularly. Ed Klassen

A few weeks ago I started putting a seed mix in the feeders rather than just black oil sunflowers. I think the jay must be eating the striped sunflowers. I think I’ll put up a peanut feeder as well.

Apparently a few people came out from Langley today to see our bird. I was teaching, so I wasn’t able to connect with you. I assume that one or both of you are members here so if you read this, were you able to find it?
In other news, I picked up a peanut feeder today, so we’ll have some happy jays in the neighbourhood.

This morning I saw a jay flying over and land in the top of a conifer near the school. I suspected it was the Scrub Jay and indeed it was. I've heard it's been frequenting a yard on Elm Street as well of late.

The scrub-jay was seen again this morning at Robertson Elementary. It was at the top of the conifer across the creek from the feeder tree.

The scrub-jay was seen again this morning at Robertson Elementary. It was at the top of the conifer across the creek from the feeder tree. On Ed's ebird report of the Scrub-jay we decided to look for it today also. We must have just missed you. We found it a various locations on Southlands Crescent.

I went to check it out this morning (Sunday) since schools do not like non students on their grounds during school time. In spite of looking around the outside of the school I did not find it. I did hear some Steller's Jays at a distance. I started to head back to the truck and ran into a couple of birders I knew and we located it on Southland Cres perched in a large Japanese (non)flowering cherry tree in a backyard. It had a nut in its beak and seemed to be gathering them from a feeder and stashing them in and around the tree until a cat arrived and then it retreated to the upper branches. Finally got out again by Nick, on Flickr

I have been seeing it regularly the last week at the west end of Soutlands, flying over Young and Hocking and also over by Elm Street. It has always been in the company of Steller's Jays. If coming to look and it's not at the school, it does move around the area.
Great photo, Nick.

I saw it again today, this time alone far as I could tell. Late last week it was flying with three Steller's Jay. This was at the west end of Southlands.
