I bought a scope this spring that came with a rather cheap tripod. Well the plastic tripod head attachment broke while I was using it, causing my scope to fall and break. Fortunately the company is covering the scope under warranty.
But I am looking for a better tripod and tripod head. Any recommendations for a smaller budget? Does anyone have a tripod they might want to sell?
Peace Paul

Good question! I don't know a lot about tripods but I have a Manfrotto 7322 CY Carbon Fibre one. It is VERY lightweight, which is great almost all of the time. My brother has the same one but also one that's still carbon fibre but has much heavier legs. The time I found this made a difference was in Nome on the beach seawatching in windy conditions. If you're going to be carrying more than standing on windy beaches I would go for a lighter one. Here is the one I have: www.amazon.ca/Manfrotto-7322CY-BB-Carbon-Tripod-Ballhead/dp/B004H1R7Q8

Good suggestion, Randy.
Paul, glad to hear things are getting sorted out but sorry still for the mishap.
When you're looking at tripods for a scope consider also a pan tilt tripod head. For me, I've gone with ball heads for the camera and pan tilt for my scope after some experimentation and field trials.

CraigsList will have something for a lot less than a new one. Try to get a carbon fiber tripod. Your back and shoulders will thank you for it.
As far as a ballhead or something like it don't cheap out or you'll loose another scope to breakage. Just my 2 cents worth.....

Thanks for the advice everyone. I picked a used Manfrotto yesterday, with a pan-tilt head. It is aluminum, but the price was right and I was inclined to look for stability over light weight.
