A juvenile Northern Mockingbird was observed at Hope Airport this morning. It is quite skittish and played a game of hide and seek. Seen several times on the north side near the orange and white metal tower. It sat on the 10 ft. wood power pole or the small Atco building. After 15 minutes it flew and landed across the open grass field near the south west side of the runway. Ed Klassen

Very good find Ed well done. Were there any Western Kingbirds present? Just curious because been a few sightings there and wonder if a pair could be breeding there.

Yes, Chris 2 have been around for weeks. Today I saw one...sitting sedate on the fence at the weather station. Also 4 Eastern King birds, two in J Delairs field and 2 on the north side near Bristol Rd.

Ed, great find! First Mockingbird for the Hope Airport that I'm aware of.
I think there's a pair of Western Kingbirds nesting on Bristol Road.

I forgot to mention that I saw the juvenile Northern Mockingbird at Hope Airport the following day after Ed found it.

I managed to spot this guy today as well. ed you're not kidding when you said that bird is pretty shy. I saw it from about 100 yds away on the north side of the airport between the hangers and Atco sitting on the chain-link fence. I figured I could get a decent photo but it took off from about 95 yds and clearly was not interested in letting anyone get too close as it kept moving away and even in a tree still took off. Quite the contrast with the one that was at Island 22 a few years back who was quite bold. The Western Kingbird nest that was reported on Bristol Road at the Dent property does not seem to be there anymore but there was a bird on a nest at the weather station. There was a third Western Kingbird hanging around here as well being chased around a bit by the nesting pair. I didnt see any Eastern Kingbirds today.
