One Peregrine Falcon has returned to same tree on the corner of Clearbrook Rd and Hopedale Ave in Abbotsford. This makes 6 years that they have come back to the same tree except like last January the mate hasn`t shown up. In 2016 he or she didn`t find a new mate because it came back in the beginning of October also alone. 005 modified by Henry Wall, on Flickr

For the 4th year in a row a Peregrine dove into the Holy Tree in front of my house. She or he passed within 10 ft of me in their dive, because i didn`t hear her i didn`t have time to get a photo of her in the tree. The funny thing is there were two Robin`s out in the open on my Bird Bath and she ignored them to go after the House Sparrows in the tree.

Last week I saw a pair eating a duck on No. 2 Road not far from the Barrowtown Quarry. Very likely the nesting pair. There were about 4000 Mallards and Am. Wigeon in a ditch that had open water and some shelter from the winds. It was quite the sight. They'll be happy for the warmer temperatures and thawing ice.

There was a large flock of Mallards in the Sumas River south of the dam last week. I am glad that you saw 2 because up till now i had only seen the male.

Could this be the same raptor that I have seen sitting near exit 83 on the north side of the freeway? I can't get a good enough look to identify it since I'm driving.

More than likely that would be a Red-tailed Hawk. I see them quite often perched beside highways usually on top of light poles.

010 by Henry Wall, on Flickr 004 by Henry Wall, on Flickr The was Peregrine was back today however the Crows also saw her. In the 6 years that i have watched them return to this tree this is the longest that she has stayed here. I am wondering if she is still looking for her mate who hasn`t been here since Oct 2015.
