Gord and I did some quick morning birding in Agassiz. On Whelpton road was a male Cinnamon Teal in a small pond with a few Mallards. Just a little further up was a male Blue-winged Teal. We checked a few small ponds for shorebirds but weren't successful. Turned onto Whorely road. There was a small pool of water with a few shorebirds. Killdeer, Spotted, Western, Least and surprisingly Semipalmated Sandpiper. Further down there was Killdeer and a Great Blue Heron. In the small slough was a female Bufflehead.
On Cutler road was a family of noisy Belted Kingfishers, occasionally being harassed by Eastern Kingbirds. A Sora called from the slough.
We parked and walked a small section of Tuyttens road. Lots of Blackbirds and starlings. Another Sora called from a flooded field. Walking back to the car Gord's sharp eye spotted another Sora out in the open feeding. Of course I left my camera in the car. Returning to the car we heard a Least Flycatcher calling, has to be breeding there.
We drove off and the Sora was still there but feeding further back.
See it?
Next time, no matter what, I will not leave my camera in the car. It was right out in the open not in thick grass.
