Today saw a few goodies as I was out and about.
Island 22 was very busy today. No doubt left over from the poor weather yesterday that caused the migrants to stop.
About the third bird I looked at was a beautiful American Redstart. This is one of my favourite warblers with their incredible plumage and very active feeding style. Warblers were in good numbers and I saw Yellow, Wilsons, Black-throated Grey, Orange-crowned and Townsend's. A juvenile Bullocks Oriole was a nice sight. I have not seen an oriole for about a month now until today! There were lots of Warbling Vireos as well today.
Cheam Lake Wetlands was fairly quiet. A MacGillvray's Warbler was on the Creek Trail. Plenty of bear sign on both trails and I have heard reports of the bear(s) being seen. On the wires on the way out there was a fantastic Western Kingbird. I mourned the loss of my camera but got some with the old backup.
Eating what looks like a termite or something.
On the way home, I saw that the two, or two other, Red-necked Phalaropes were in the pond again. I did not see them that morning nor did Bruce and Joanne who also looked for them. (great to have met you both today!
) There were also a few Least Sandpipers among lots of Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintails, Mallards, Canada Geese and a lone Northern Shoveler.
Quite the little swimmers.
