Yesterday a friend sent me a picture of an owl that was in her garden..I did a double take and thought it couldn't be but it was...A burrowing owl. After checking with Murray it was confirmed. I sent the email to Gord, so i hope he posts it. The quality of the photo is not very good but, but good enough for an ID. I went looking for the little guy but haven't seen it.

Yes it was. It was spotted around 10:30 yesterday morning here in Agassiz.

Gary, thanks for the email and information. Too bad the legs were not seen so we know if it's a banded individual or not. There are lots of recovery efforts underway for this species and many of the birds that are released in the wild are banded. I hope it does ok in the cool weather. These birds should be well south by now. The neighbourhood should keep an eye open as if it starts to go downhill, perhaps it can be caught, warmed and fed!

Awesome sighting! I recall one of these little guys being spotted here in Abbotsford back in 2004.

Thanks for reporting the sighting Gary.
Would this be a'wild' bird or one that has been released or ecause we can't see the legs, we can't say for sure?

Chris, Mike McIntosh from the Burrowing Owl Recovery Program told us that the bird is almost certainly one of theirs. Either a banded released bird or one of the wild juveniles from previously released stock.
