I have a new journal ready. I managed to find a Ferruginous Hawk that Rick Toochin discovered last night. Some nice people let me park in their yard to take some digiscoped pictures. Look for Apr 6-16 journal. lenjellicoe.zenfolio.com/f944800113

Len, nice pictures of the bird. It’s a fantastic record for the Fraser Valley. I saw one of these when I was in Alberta last year and they are beautiful. It's great to hear that someone else saw it.
Great pictures of the other birds in your journal as well.

Tryed this morning and ran into Rick and a few others along Gibson Rd. Got a few looks before some family obligations. Came back at Noon and an Eagle was in the tree and the ferruginous was gone. I was out of my range for anything in focus, but what the heck.

Now that's a bird one wouldnt expect around here! Good work, Rick, on the great find and Len, glad you got out to relocate it and manage some pictures that I, like Kev, think are pretty good.
Like Kev, I had family priorities today too, but as luck would have it, managed to cruise by the area between destinations in the mid afternoon. That's where the luck ended as no hawk was found. A young Peregrine, some Red-tails and couple American Kestrels among more than a few Bald Eagles were all we got for raptors on the little side trip. Maybe it will hang around a few days with the unsettled weather.

I got a chance to go out and take a look this afternoon. I couldn't locate the hawk in the Gibson and Chilliwack Central area, so I went to the other side of the freeway to see if I could track down any Plovers. I found 5 feeding with a large number of Mew Gulls in the field southeast of the corner of Banford and Prairie Central.
